At ICU Eyewear, we do things in an eco-friendly way to reduce our impact on the planet. Using bamboo, recyclable materials, and bioplastic to create stylish glasses are just a few of the methods we employ in an effort to work sustainably.

Renewable Materials

We are constantly striving to include more sustainable materials wherever we can, in order to create products with reduced environmental impact.

This tree-like grass can grow up to 3 feet per day! Bamboo can be grown in marginal soil and can help reverse desertification. Bamboo also absorbs and sequesters carbon from the air. We use bamboo for the temples in many of our Reading Glasses and Sunglasses.

BioPlastic Composites

Reducing our use of petroleum base materials

Our Grillamid bioplastic is derived from the castor bean, a sustainable, renewable crop that does not compete with food and does not cause deforestation.

• No competition with food / feed.
• No deforestation.
• Highly profitable for the farmers.
• Grown mainly in india only in the poorest soil.
• Castor beans contain 45% oil.

Recyclable Plastics

All of our plastic frames are fully recyclable. The reclaimed plastic can be ground into new feedstock for new products.
